BRAC and the Humanitarian Futures Programme (HFP) engaged in a number of joint activities to: explore how BRAC was addressing longer term humanitarian threats; and familiarise the HFP with BRAC’s work and approach, within Bangladesh and internationally.  In April 2009, the HFP conducted a preliminary futures assessment with BRAC.  The assessment identified ways that the HFP and BRAC’s Disasters Environment and Climate Change programme (DECC) could collaborate to strengthen capacity within BRAC to anticipate and prepare for future humanitarian challenges and opportunities. This collaboration sought to strengthen BRAC’s leadership role and capacity for addressing vulnerability issues in a futures oriented manner based on the premise that the types, dimensions and dynamics of humanitarian crises are changing exponentially and will require new approaches and skill sets on the part of BRAC staff.
