Despite the volume of scientific information, capacity and expertise which exist for West Africa, DRM policy makers and professionals face challenges in capitalising on this wealth of scientific resources. This Framework paper addresses these challenges, providing a structured approach to thinking about the process of knowledge exchange across scientists, communities and DRM professionals. The development of this paper followed from HFPs leading role in supporting the development, implementation and reporting of the ECOWAS Regional Workshop on Information Sharing and Early Warning Coordination Mechanisms for Disaster Risk Reduction in November 2013 in Niamey, Niger.
