UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction Annual Conference

You are invited to a day of thought-provoking lectures and discussions on risk and disaster reduction, organised by the IRDR, hosted at UCL, and open to all. The conference will be rounded off with the summer party, which will be an opportunity for further interaction and networking. The conference includes:
· Keynote lecture: "Communicating disasters: the cultural script
of a 21st century pandemic", Frank Furedi, Professor of Sociology, University of Kent, Canterbury; author of The Culture of Fear and Where Have All the Intellectuals Gone?
· In conversation with Virginia Murray, Head of Extreme Events and
Health Protection at the Health Protection Agency.
· Sessions on Water Risk and Security (a panel discussion on a
planet under pressure) and Risk and Uncertainty (dealing with natural hazards).
Throughout the day there will be a display of posters in the South Cloisters on the theme of Water Risk and Security. Anybody wishing to display a poster is asked to contact Stephen Edwards (s.edwards@ucl.ac.uk).
