The 2009 Stakeholders Forum was held on 19‐20 November at King’s College, London. The Forum’s agenda comprised three main issues, each reflecting recommendations agreed at the 2008 Stakeholders Forum:

• strategic leadership
• futures issues
• HFP overall review

The theme of strategic leadership was linked to futures issues in order to identify strategic leadership challenges for dealing with the uncertainties and complexities surrounding potential future humanitarian crises such as Waters of the Third Pole,
Wat/san in urban settings and Pandemics as crisis drivers.

Stakeholders reflected on strategic leadership along the following lines:

• the nature of strategic leadership
• dealing with uncertainty and complexity
• cultural determinants and strategic leadership
• strategic leadership in the humanitarian sector
